    Accountabilities

    The maintenance technician is responsible for providing on-site technical activities for the trackside and onboard Signalling ATC (ATS, IXL, CBTC). These systems are predominantly electronic , software based systems, many of which are built using Commercial Off The Shelf (COTS) computer hardware. This is a 1st and 2nd line support role.

    When called out, maintenance technician will have to solve the fault but if the issue cannot be resolved, he will liaise with the appropriate 3rd Line System Expert (HITACHI Support).

    Working hours will be a nominal 40 hours per week, but flexible working is essential to accommodate client maintenance periods and the he will be on-call for some nights and weekends. The maintenance engineer must be domiciled not far from the metro depot and its sites in general, so as to be able to reach the location of the fault in the shortest possible time, when service calls are received,

    The maintenance technician is not expected to be an expert in any of the Metro Subway systems or on railway signaling but will be expected to have a high level of computer/control system skills. Engineers with experience of working on electronic systems for utilities , Oil& Gas, Railway etc are likely to be the most suitable candidates, but a practical IT Support engineer used to installing software might also be considered.

  • This is technical electronic/electro-mechanical Train Control (TC) maintenance and repair work of a difficult and complex nature. Employee in this class is responsible for performing highly skilled maintenance/repair/testing/ troubleshooting work on ATC (IXL,ATS, CBTC) equipment. Employee has attitude for independent judgment and action within established guidelines.
  • Performs major repairs, inspection, adjustments, testing, cleaning, lubrication and proper maintenance on assigned ATC equipment in accordance with wiring diagrams, schematics, operations manuals and manufacturers' maintenance instructions.
  • Observes ATC system components and devices in operation to detect potential failures and locates causes of malfunction. Responds to ATC malfunctions, instituting repairs/replacements as necessary. Uses electronic test equipment and other specialized tools as required.
  • Completes documentation for installation, maintenance and modification of ATC equipment.
  • Provides technical assistance to lower classified personnel in their work assignments. Participates in training programs as required.
  • Complies with Safety Rules, Operating Book of Rules and first-aid procedures.

    Skills and Experience

  • Knowledge of Spanish and English
  • Satisfactory completion of an acceptable electronic/electro-mechanical course and progressively responsible experience in electro-mechanical train control work associated with rapid rail transit, conventional railroad or related systems are required.
  • 2-3 years' experience in the maintenance/repair of complex digital circuitry, analog/digital train control systems, or relevant ATC experience.
