Job Title: Transportation Technologist Environmental Assessment (Technologist II)Status: Permanent Full-Time POSITION PURPOSE Reporting to the Program Manager, Transportation Engineering is responsible to assist with environmental assessment studies; to develop and maintain transportation databases; to run computerized models; to review and conduct transportation data analysis; and to prepare transportation reports.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
• Assists in environmental assessment studies including preparation of the needs and justification, public review, transportation analysis, assessment of alternatives and preparation of documentation as required.
• Reviews transportation studies and provides comments, background information, data and analysis.
• Develops and maintains transportation planning computerized databases and prepares necessary reports.
• Accesses, analyses and interprets transportation data collected by the Region and other agencies to determine current and future transportation system demands and needs.
• Reviews and provides comments on study reports.
• Prepares or assists in the preparation of maps and displays for reports and presentations, and transportation study reports and correspondence.
• Liaises with internal and external staff, consultants, engineers, developers and agencies regarding studies and environmental assessments.
• Attends meetings as assigned by the Program Manager.
• Performs other related duties, as assigned, that are in accordance with Branch and Department objectives.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Successful completion of a three (3) year Community College Diploma Program in Civil Engineering Technology.
• Minimum three (3) years experience in transportation planning or engineering.
• Thorough knowledge of transportation planning principles and techniques.
• Thorough knowledge of analytical techniques applicable to transportation planning studies.
• Computer literacy utilising MS Office applications as well as proficiency with the application of specialized software relevant to the technical specialty.
• Knowledge and demonstrated ability in corporate core competencies including communication, innovation, teamwork and collaboration, and personal ownership.
• Ability to undertake comprehensive technical studies.
• Ability to organize data in a structured, traceable and proficient manner.
• Ability to develop creative and innovative problem solving solutions.
• Ability to review, interpret and critique technical reports and engineering drawings.
• Ability to work effectively with all levels of Regional staff, municipal staff, developers, engineers, planners, other professionals and the general public.
• Ability to work outside regular business hours as required.
